Sorry for the break

I apologize for the extended break folks. I moved, got caught up in work, dabbled in school, withdrew from school, moved back home, job searching has been crazy but I’m going to try to get back into this since it helps keep me sane. I enjoy sharing music with everyone and voicing my opinions on music. I should be posting on here more often now, it’s going to be a habit of mine so keep an eye out.

Best,

Emily

The Fever 333

I have some mixed feelings about the Fever 333. At first I thought they were just trying to be a hardcore version of Nothing More, if you recall songs like “Do You Really Want It”. But once I heard their hit song “Walking In My Shoes” play on the radio about a thousand times, I realized I liked their sound and that they were in fact somewhat unique and different. They truly aren’t like any other band out there and that’s what makes them stand out. They’re loud and in your face, their lyrics have an “I don’t give a fuck what you think” approach. If you want something different to listen to, something that’s a little rock, a little alternative and a little punk, give these guys a listen.

A Day To Remember – Paranoia

For anyone who has ever experienced paranoia and simply because this is the kind of song that pops into your head at the most random times….like Saturday at 12:15 am. It’s just so catchy! This is the relatively new song and music video coming from ‘A Day To Remember’ called ‘Paranoia’. Enjoy 🙂

Throwback Thursday: Thirty Seconds to Mars – ‘The Kill (Bury Me)’

Yes. This week we’re going back to a better time. A time where Jared Leto rocked the bangs and we rarely saw him without ‘guyliner’. The band has definitely changed over the years as band members have come and gone, a lawsuit has been fought with a documentary to prove it, they’ve made a Guinness World Record for their extensive touring under one album and they accomplished and overcome so much more. Luckily, the changes and events that have occurred have only helped the band flourish. They have one hell of a fan base known as the Echelon aka the Mars Army aka the Believers. They’ve become more unified over the years. The band separated from big name labels and ditched the mainstream music industry all together once the lawsuit was over. Once they were free, they began a new adventure and as a result we were given some incredible music, tours and so much more. For today, this lovely Thursday, we’re not going to focus on the here and now. That’s just not how ‘Throwback Thursday’ works…obviously. So, this little Echelon (yes, it’s true) is proud to present this week’s throwback, the music video inspired by ‘The Shining’, ‘The Kill (Bury Me)’ by Thirty Seconds to Mars.

Throwback Thursday: Icon for Hire – ‘Get Well’

Let’s take it back to say……2011? That was the year Icon for Hire released their debut album, Scripted. The album topped the charts including the Billboard Top 200 and iTunes.

Fun Fact:

“Scripted shattered first week sales becoming the highest new artist debut in Tooth & Nail Records history.” (http://www.mtv.com/artists/icon-for-hire/)

Icon for Hire is still making music and are alive and well (pun!) so go show em’ some love!

Be sure to check out their Bandcamp page and pre-order their EP 10,000 Worlds Away. Each pre-order comes with 2 tracks now and the rest of the album to be downloaded later. Devour the Day: A side project you NEED to hear

devour

https://www.facebook.com/devourtheday/

Have you ever heard a song that sounded so familiar, but you know for a fact that you’ve never even heard of the band, nonetheless the song? Recently I came across one of these oh so familiar songs while listening to my new favorite creation, Sirius XM Radio,  on my way to work and it drove me crazy.

The song title and artist were easy. I had them memorized after the second time hearing it. “Lightning in the Sky” by Devour the Day. I could have just done a quick Google search on my lunch break but my ADD brain always kicked in and I’d forget about it by the time I made it to the office.

After some research, I discovered why this band sounded so damn familiar. One quick search revealed to me that Devour the Day was a side project of one of my most beloved bands, Egypt Central.

Egypt Central began in 2002, releasing their self titled debut album in 2008. Their hit song, “You Make Me Sick” was my jam and it’s safe to say I played the hell out of it. The band was successful with their first album and toured with some big names like Seether and In This Moment. Seeing them live at Edgefest at Altamont Fairgrounds was epic, I sang along to every song, I had memorized every word. At the end of the day, I was walking along a fence with some other concert goers when the lead singer appeared on the other side of the fence. He started waving, yelling to us fans, “Security and the concert company won’t let us do meet and greets so we want to say hi and thank you for coming. They can’t stop us from talking over the fence.” It was that moment, that gesture that proved to me this was a band made up of real people who respect their fans. I was hooked. Their second album, White Rabbit was released in 2010 and was followed by multiple tours including their own headlining tour. The album created a lot of hype in the rock world but it didn’t last. Egypt Central fans knew something was up when when months passed by without new music or any talk of future plans. In 2012, Joey Chicago broke a year of silence with a letter posted on the bands Facebook page. There it was announced that vocalist John Falls and guitarist Jeff James were done with the band and that Egypt Central was no more.

This sad gray cloud had a silver lining, because included in that letter was the introduction for something new, a little band called, Devour the Day.  The band was founded by former Egypt Central band members Joey “Chicago” Walser and Blake Allison. The official band member lineup includes Joey “Chicago” Walser on bass and backup vocals, Blake Allison on lead vocals and guitar, Ronnie Farris on drums and David Hoffman on lead guitar. Touring members include Jeff James on guitar and Dustin Schoenhofer on drums. With a solid group of talented musicians, the Memphis, TN based hard rock band released their first album on May 7th, 2013. The album, “Time & Pressure” was released under Fat Lady Music and featured the hit single, “Good Man”. Much of 2013 was spent touring and building up an audience, both were done with much success. In 2014, they re-released their first album with remixes and a new song, “Check Your Head”. With a growing fanbase and successful album sale, Devour the Day made their way to the top of the rock charts. In 2015 the band was signed to Razor & Tie Records.

Their latest album, S.O.A.R., was just released on April 1st, 2016. The album title is an clever acronym.  S suffer • O overcome • A and • R recover. Guitarist Blake Allison described the meaning of the title in an interview from Revolver Magazine by saying, “‘S.O.A.R.’ is an acronym for ‘Suffer, Overcome, And Recover.’ It references the true nature of hard work, dedication and the feeling of strength through any process. When the pressure of life and all its struggles has beaten you down, it’s what one does in response that really matters and makes us grow as human beings.”  (See link below video).

Devour the Day truly is a side project you should check out. If you like hard rock or rock music in general, you’re bound to be a fan. If you’re not a hard rock fan, still give them a listen and see what you think. You might just find a new favorite band!

My favorite track right now has to be their ever so popular, “Lightning in the Sky”. Go listen and then connect with the band!

A farewell to Beartooth’s Brandon Mullins

No die hard music fan wants to log in to their Facebook account to see that their favorite band has announced the departure of a band member. Sadly, this was the case today as thousands of Beartooth fans read the dreaded post written by the Ohio based metalcore band Beartooth.

From Beartooth’s FB Page

It is certainly a sad day for the music world but the important thing is that there are no hard feelings, no grudges to be held and Mullins isn’t just bailing and leaving the band high and dry.

Personally, I have a lot of respect for the man and I wish him all the best. Even though it’s going to suck not having Mullins in the band, I honestly can’t wait to see what Beartooth comes up with next.

Stay up to date by following Beartooth’s Facebook and Twitter and check out their upcoming tours and new music while you’re there!
