Bring Me The Horizon- Sempiternal (Review)

Bring Me The Horizon released their latest album, Sempiternal back in April of 2013 but it wasn’t until Christmas morning that I discovered my own copy, wrapped in shiny paper under the family Christmas tree. I’ve been listening to it non-stop to prepare a review for the album so here it is…

Bring Me The Horizon-Sempiternal

Sempiternal is the ultimate follow up album to Bring Me The Horizon’s 2010 release, There Is A Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is A Heaven Let’s Keep It A Secret. Before receiving my own copy I had only heard a few songs off the album a while back so the first full listen was pretty new to me. My first impression was, “Whoa!” I always expect the best from musicians, especially from a band like Bring Me The Horizon but this is by far one of the best follow up albums I have heard in a very long time. I know the band considered beginning the recording process earlier, meaning while they were resting from touring and everything, but I am so glad that they held off and spent the time to put everything they had into the album. Fans were getting impatient, as was I but let’s face it, the product is far better this way. Sempiternal is a very aggressive album, it has a lot of crunch to it, it has body, but at the same time it has a euphoric feeling. As a listener you can tap into the songs through the sound and the lyrics and in a way just lose yourself. The first track, Can You Feel My Heart, has a pulse that almost syncs with your own. It’s heavy and raw but the sharp electronica influence provides a clean and clear element as well. Track three, Empire (Let Them Sing), is another great song to check out. It’s a powerful song in which lead vocalist Oli Sykes sings, “The deeper you dig, the darker it gets, there’s nowhere else for us to go. We live while we learn, and then we forget. We’ll never find our way back home”.  If you want a traditional, hard hitting, Bring Me The Horizon song you can’t go wrong with Antivist (but you can be the judge of that).

Overall this is an phenomenal album, one that is truly a masterpiece in metalcore. If you don’t own Sempiternal yet I suggest going to get a copy, you get a free poster with certain copies! Also, Bring Me The Horizon is making their way on tour so check them out!

*I missed out on tickets unfortunately but I did get tickets for Asking Alexandria so I can’t complain  🙂
